1954 Olds Dream Car

Home Up Dream Photos

Marquis has been researching this vehicle worldwide and we thank those that have sent us photos and documentation regarding this lost piece of Custom Show Car history.

This highly styled Dream Car began life as a 1954 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday Coupe (54-3637D).  It was used as a daily driver until 1960-1961 when Tom & Joanne Archer began building a truly unique one-off radical custom show car.

The customization of this original vehicle included the following:

  • Corvette styled coves behind the wheel wells
  • Hand made El-Camino styled rear bed area
  • 1959 Plymouth Belvedere Stainless Side Trim
  • 1960-1961 Chevrolet Corvair Rear Air Duct  (see rear roof photo)
  • Chrome Reverse Wheels with Caps and Spinners
  • 1954 Oldsmobile Front Chrome Bumper
  • 1955 Desoto Grille with 9 teeth
  • 1955 Oldsmobile Rear Chrome Bumper
  • 1957 Plymouth Dual Headlights integrated into the original Oldsmobile fenders
  • Rocket 88 Engine: modified 371 with many racing features
  • Dual Carburetor Setup with Weiand Intake
  • Offenhauser Valve Covers
  • Chrome Engine Trim
  • Sun Tachometer and Transmitter
  • 1963 Mercury Comet Tail Light Bezels used for surrounds on the side stacks
  • 1958-1960 Chevrolet Corvette Tail Lights
  • 1963 Chevrolet Impala Tail Lights
  • 6 Exhausts:  2 Sides, 2 Stacks, and 2 Rear
  • 1962-1963 Impala Bucket Seats
  • Center Console with shift control
  • Louvered Original Oldsmobile Hood
  • Chopped Roof Line from original vehicle
  • Custom Rear Bed with red oak wood and white vinyl cover
  • and more!

We restored this custom vehicle back to 1963 and it will be ready for competitions and displays once again!

The stars were aligned . . .  and suddenly . . .  the King of all Kustoms arrived.  George Barris awarded us "The George Barris Elegance Award"!

Even Moises Aires from the Disney TV Series "Hannah Montana" gave us a personal appearance!

The true payoff for our team was being able to re-unite "Joanne's Dream" with the photographer who had not seen the car since 1963!  Jerry Eich came to Chicago and saw the car after more than 45 years had past and to see his old friends at the show.

Here are some other vehicles at the show that competed against "Joanne" back in the early 1960's

Thanks to Pat Finley, we were able to bring "Joanne's Dream" once step closer to the way it was when she competed back more than 45 years ago.

We want to thank everyone who made this historic weekend something our entire team will never forget!

Look what is to the right side of our car, Mike Ford's 1977 Grand Prix that was restored at Marquis Auto and recently won AACA 1st Place Sr. and Special Awards!

Thanks to Bruce Horkey's Wood & Parts for the custom Red Oak Bed

Now we wait for the response at the show....
